Treatments are usually quick with minimal social downtime. Common areas to treat include the lower face, underarms, arms, legs, and bikini. A series is required for successful treatment.
It uses pulsed light to deliver energy into the hair follicle, damaging the cells that produce hair. The energy from the pulsed light is attracted to the melanin in the hair follicle.
Laser hair removal is one of our school’s most popular services in advanced esthetics. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), also known as Broad Band Light (BBL), and Laser Light are used for this treatment. This service produces long-lasting results, including a reduction in the quantity of hair and its coarseness.
When determining the ideal candidate for laser hair removal, many factors come into consideration. This technology works by focusing on the pigment of the hair located within the skin. Because of this, coarse dark black or brown hair on fair skin will typically have the best clearance; however, lasers can be used safely on darker skin types. Treatment of red, white, gray, and blond hairs is not advised due to the lack of pigment in the hair.
Twenty-four hours before treatment, the desired treatment area must be freshly shaved to ensure no hair is above the skin’s surface. This preparation will produce a more effective and comfortable service.
After the service, the treated area may feel tender, sunburnt, and appear irritated, even rash-like. It is common for the first service to be the most uncomfortable and to have the most noticeable reaction. Approximately two weeks after the treatment, hairs will begin to slide out of the follicle on their own.
Depending on the area and suggested treatment plan, a series of appointments will be needed. It is not uncommon to need the occasional touch-up to maintain results. The frequency of service will vary depending on a multitude of factors but can range anywhere from 3-8 weeks in between treatments.
