Averie Hough
Meet Averie Hough, recent AI Masters Esthetics graduate. If you want to know what kind of student Averie was at the school, just know that she graduated in February, 2023 and opened her own business in March, 2023.
We recently had the opportunity to go check out Averie’s new place and speak with her about her very fast transition from hard-working student to even harder-worker business owner who provides every service taught in our Masters esthetics program. Read about how Averie found the motivation to hit the ground running after graduating.
What program did you complete?
Masters Esthetics
When did you attend the school?
I attended September and graduated February 10th!
When did you start your business?
I started my business a month after graduating from the school. March 10th, 2023 was my grand opening.
What services do you offer?
Microdermabrasion, chemical peels, photo light therapy (face & body), dermaplaning, Acne Boot Camp, facials, European facials, lash lifts and tints, brow shaping, waxing and lamination, full body waxing, micro current, and massage!
What about the AI program did you feel most contributed to your success today?
I felt very confident in the skills that I learned from the school. Jumping into opening my business so quickly felt very smooth with lots of support and advice from my instructors to guide me throughout the process.
Why did you want to start your own esthetician business?
I have always been passionate about skin health, along with being very motivated to learn and grow along the way. I felt that opening my own business would give me the opportunity to learn about my clients’ skin on a much deeper level. I have always wanted to own my own practice and it has been nothing short of incredible.
What do you wish you knew prior to starting your business?
To take it slow and to think hard and long about big purchases. I say pay yourself first and invest back into your business. Celebrate your small successes and be proud of yourself, don’t compare yourself to other professionals who’ve been in the business much longer, but learn from everyone!
What were the resources that really helped you start your own business?
Some resources I took a lot from was investing my time into learning from others and listening to podcasts of successful entrepreneurs. My instructor Jade gave me a lot of insight and guidance along with my family who was so supportive. Creating a routine for myself gave me structure to create content and keep myself in check!
Staff Introductions
Meet Colette Neva, our Director of Admissions & Alumni Relations
AI graduate Colette Neva joins the Aesthetics Institute as the Director of Admissions & Alumni Relations after her most recent position as our Clinic Coordinator. Before returning to AI, she was the District Manager of European Wax Centers in the Portland area.
Colette’s path in the beauty industry started when she completed cosmetology school at 21, thinking she only wanted to do hair.
She knew she wanted a career making people smile and feel confident, so after graduating, she quickly started working at the Cannon Beach Spa, where the salon area was being remodeled.
Because of the construction, this meant the majority of the services she performed on clients at the beginning of her career were facials. Because of this, Colette found her passion was truly in skincare and esthetics.
After working in Cannon Beach for a year, Colette took time off from working in the beauty industry to raise her family. When her children were a bit older, she decided to return to the workforce, but this time, she wanted to pursue a career in skincare.
Because of her break from the beauty industry and her desire to learn the newest and most relevant services and skincare techniques, she knew she needed to return to school. But this time, she wanted to focus exclusively on esthetics.
When asked what factors she considered when choosing to attend the Aesthetics Institute, Colette had this response.
“That was an easy decision. This school has top-of-the-line equipment and professional products. No other schools could offer what was available to me here. When I came for my tour, I could see and feel the positive learning environment that the school had cultivated. It was no contest for me when I decided to attend the Aesthetics Institute, and I am so glad I did.”
As for being the Director of Admissions & Alumni Relations at the school, Colette had some difficulty narrowing down her favorite part of the job. “The prospective students and their families, the customers, the instructors, the current students, and the entire staff!”
Colette is excited to be able to help people start their education in esthetics or continue their career to the next level by attending our Advanced Esthetics Program. She looks forward to meeting both new students and continuing to make connections with the many graduates from the Institute.
You can reach Colette at colette@aiofportland.com or by calling the school.
